Don't let disorder reign in your bathroom cabinets. Take control with our decluttering guide, the solution to a clutter-free medicine cabinet.

For starters, get yourself in the right mood. Incorporating music can make any mundane task feel less tedious, and decluttering your bathroom cabinets can certainly seem mundane. Just ensure that your speakers are at a safe distance from the sink and toilet!

Begin tackling the clutter by removing all items from the shelves and cabinets. Then, review each item carefully and discard anything that is old, expired, or no longer necessary. If you have many things to organize, it might be easier to put them all in a container and move to a more comfortable spot in your house to sort and throw away the things you don't need.

When there's nothing inside your bathroom cabinet, that's a good time to clean and get rid of any germs on the shelves. We recommend mixing a teaspoon of bleach in a quart of water for an inexpensive and easy disinfectant. This solution can be added to a spray bottle or applied to a cloth and then used to wipe down any surface. Even though this is a heavily diluted disinfectant, it can still irritate sensitive skin. Wear gloves if you have them available, and wash your hands after cleaning.

Now that your shelves are clean, it’s time to organize. Put the items you use the most where they are the easiest to reach. The less time you spend digging around in the morning, the better. From there, arrange your products in a way that makes sense to you and is easy to remember. You can put similar things together, like all of your medicine on one shelf and your skincare products on another. Alternatively, organization can be based on how frequently you use each item.

Even if you simplify and rearrange things, you might still have too many products and not enough shelves. If you have extra space in your bathroom, consider adding more cabinets or shelves to create additional storage. Relatively inexpensive standalone units and shelves can be found in most home furnishing stores. Beyond that, consider relocating products that don’t necessarily need to be in the bathroom. That cabinet under the kitchen sink is also a great place for cleaning products. And a free shelf in your kitchen can be a new home for vitamins and first aid supplies.

Keeping your bathroom organized and clutter-free means easier cleaning and easier access to the products you need the most.
